Trucking case/Moving Company: Client sustained spinal cord injuries when a moving company allowed and encouraged him to drive his motorcycle up a ramp into the moving van. While doing so, the ramp slipped underneath the motorcycle causing the Client to fall backward on his neck. A driver of a tanker truck fell asleep, veered off the side of the road, lost control of his tanker and struck the client's vehicle which struck the client. It was learned through discovery that the tanker driver had an ongoing history of sleep apnea and narcolepsy and that he had been in a prior wreck thirty days before striking our client. Through the retention of experts, including an accident reconstructionist and a trucking safety expert, we were able to prove that the tanker driver was operating his truck in violation of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations and that his employer was aware of his disabling conditions. The driver was dismissed from employment after this wreck. The case was settled prior to trial. |

Premises Liability/Parking lot design defect: Client was standing outside of a drugstore when a vehicle jumped out of gear and rolled down the hill of the parking lot and crashed into the Client pinning her against the wall of the drugstore. The client suffered crush injuries to both legs and hips requiring many surgeries and extensive physical therapy. An action was filed alleging faulty design of the parking lot, as well as failure to provide bollards and/or any type of barrier to prevent any type of vehicles from encroaching upon the sidewalk where customers and patrons of the drugstore walked. It was able to be determined, through the discovery of the case that this type of incident happened twice before placing the property owner on notice of a defect, which they failed to remedy. The settlement figure represents a total for Workers' Compensation, as well as the design defect case against the property owner. |

| $500,000.00 | Tractor Trailer wreck: Case involves a tractor trailer that was left partially extended into the roadway. Due to the lack of lighting on the roadway and the trailer partially extended into the roadway, the Client struck the trailer causing his death. Through the discovery of the case, it was determined that trailers were dropped in this area on many occasions, without permission to do so, and were left extended into the roadway many times. This case was taken to trial and settled on the third day of trial. As a result of this settlement, trailers no longer park where this accident occurred making the roadways safer for the motoring public. |

Client was charged with shoplifting, handcuffed, paraded through the store, publicly ridiculed and embarrassed in front of the patrons at the store and was thrown in jail. Due to the Client's incarceration, she suffered a myocardial infarction (heart attack). Criminal charges were handled by Lanier & Burroughs, LLC, and were dismissed.
